Look and branding
The instance's look
Superusers set it in home → Instance → Look:
| Setting |
Effect |
| Name |
shown under every panel's name instead of the domain |
| Accent colour |
the theme's primary colour in every panel |
| Logo |
PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF or SVG up to 256 KB, in every panel and on id's sign-in |
| Background |
an image up to 2 MB behind every panel, with an optional 0 to 60 px blur; surfaces turn to glass |
| Colours |
panel theme variables (background, cards, sidebar, text…), each #rrggbb |
The look travels with home's public catalog (GET /api/v1/catalog), which every panel already reads, so it
applies everywhere at once, including this documentation. notify's e-mails and status pages use it too.
The service switcher
home → Instance → Switcher sets the order, names, icons and visibility of the services in every
panel's switcher, and adds links of your own (another documentation site, a wiki, a dashboard).
White-label builds
xvii can be built under another name. The brand is set at build time:
make BRAND=acme DISPLAY="Acme Cloud"
Everything brandable derives from it: binary and unit names (acme-node, acme-pages.service), paths
(/etc/acme, /var/lib/acme), environment prefixes (ACME_PAGES_…), Docker labels (acme.*) and the
name shown to people, with "powered by xvii" credited. Protocols, module paths and API names stay xvii's:
a branded build is still the xvii core, and its releases install with the same tools. Build every service
and the CLI with the same BRAND.
